John Nixon, Sr

John S. Nixon, Sr. is the Executive Secretary of the South Central Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to working in this capacity, he pastored for 34 years in various cities around the division, including several major cities: Boston, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and New York City. Pastor Nixon has also served as senior pastor on three Adventist campuses: Atlantic Union College, Oakwood Adventist University, and Southern Adventist University. For seven years he was an Associate Director of the Ministerial Department of the North American Division.

His administrative experience began in the Southern California Conference where he held the position of Vice President for the San Gabriel Valley churches. It was a culturally diverse district that included Filipino, Korean, Latino, Black, and White churches, as well as a Chinese church and an Indonesian church. It was a time of major growth and learning for Pastor Nixon regarding the diversity of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the North American Division. Nixon received his B.A. degree in theology from Oakwood University, in Huntsville, Alabama, his M.A. in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, and his Doctor of Ministry degree from the Seventh-day Adventist Seminary at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

He is married to Dr. Januwoina (Ja-von-na) Nixon, a career educator, who currently serves as Assistant Superintendent of Schools for South Central Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. The Nixons have three adult children: John II, an Adventist pastor in Takoma Park, Maryland;
Paul, an assistant professor of English at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, who also has an educational consulting business; and Clarise, an Assistant Professor of English at southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee. John II and his wife, April, have two children: John III (a.k.a. Third John) and Julia. Paul and
his wife, Taïna, have a newborn son, Theodore.
